Saunders County News headlines for Tuesday, June 21st from our partners at the Wahoo Newspaper, Ashland Gazette and Waverly News.

Hey, everybody, it's Kelly with SaundersCountyOnline.com. Time to take a look at the news headlines for today Tuesday the 21st of June - the longest day of the year.


The Yutan City Council will hold its monthly meeting tonight at seven o'clock at the city hall. Local residents are planning to speak to the council about the city's ban on chickens now within city limits.


On Sunday morning Pastor Michael Carpenter told members of the First United Methodist Church in Wahoo that they had reached their goal of raising $15,000 for their medical debt forgiveness campaign. The money will be used to wipe out $1.5 million worth of medical debt through the company RIP Medical Debt. The campaign was done in honor of their 150th anniversary this year.


The Saunders County Agricultural Society has agreed to make space for the Saunders County Robotics team at the fairgrounds. The team, which is made up of students in Saunders County Catholic and Wahoo Public Schools, continues to grow as they have outgrown to their current space at the Saunders Medical Center office right here in Wahoo. The group will move their effort to the fairgrounds sometime after this year's fair has finished.


From May 23 through June 5 the Saunders County Sheriff's Office participated in the national safety campaign called Click It or Ticket. Overtime for the additional deputies was paid through grant funds provided by the Nebraska Office on Highway Safety. Sheriff Kevin Stukenholtz reported that during the grant period, deputies issued 41 citations and 202 written warnings in Saunders County. Out of this a total of two arrests were for DWI, two fugitives were apprehended and two citations for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. In addition, there were numerous other vehicle and minor violations.
